Helena
is by no means new to the entertainment industry. Music has always
been a part of her life. She began singing to live audiences at
the tender age of 11 as part of a duet with her sister Sele who
was 12. Helena sang and played the piano while her sister played
guitar. One year later their brother Ray was added on to play
the drums. Shortly after becoming a trio, Helena and her sister
formed a youth choir which they co-directed. They also formed
a Christian pop group. They later became an eight piece band known
as "SPECIAL NOTE US". During this time she has been
a regular singer of the NATIONAL ANTHEM for both the CLEVELAND
INDIANS & CAVALIERS. She
also sings on telethons to raise money for charities and the homeless
of greater Cleveland. This same band eventually grew to a 12 piece
orchestra which for the past 4 years has been opening up for all
of the top salsa acts.
Helena
has performed with EL GRAN COMBO de Puerto Rico, Marc Anthony
(she also sang a duet with him at this show), Victor Manuel, Rey
Ruiz & Jerry Rivera, to name a few. It was when she opened
for EL GRAN COMBO did she get the attention of RALPH CARTAGENA
of Combo Records. After the show he made her an offer. She was
only 16, but she had an incredible talent that was to further
develop. Finally, after 4 years, she came to New York and cut
the album that she dreamed of.
The
name of her debut CD is "Yo Vine A Cantar". Her first
promotional single is entitled "Tentacion". Other cuts
include "Junto A Ti Sere Feliz", "Me Declaro Tuya",
"Missing", "No Te Quiero Como Un Amigo" --previously
recorded by Miriam Hernandez, "La "Noche Que Te Fuiste",
"Y Volvere"-- previously recorded by Los Angeles Negros,
"Un Lado Aparte" and finally a merengue "Juguete".
We had the debut of her CD at THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME
in Cleveland. This was the first time that latin music was showcased
there. Helena performed three songs from her album which were
greatly accepted by the screaming crowd of over three thousand.
According to the director of the hall of fame there were more
people on hand to see Helena than there were to see the induction
of Michael Jackson last year.
